Biggest Burrito GIveaway

DEREK DOES THE DONKEY WORK FOR PUNTERS IN UK’S BIGGEST BURRITO GIVEAWAY IN LIVERPOOL BARBURRITO FOUNDERS CELEBRATE RE-BRAND AND EXPANSION The UK’s first operator of burrito bars, Barburrito gave away a record breaking 2000 burritos at their Liverpool One store on Friday. In a separate record and at peak times during the day, a burrito was served every 9.5 seconds, quicker than Usain Bolt can do the 100 metres! Barburrito’s other outlets in the Trafford Centre and Piccadilly have just re-branded too with the latter attempting to break Liverpool’s record this Thursday. Co-founder and director Morgan Davies explained: “We were astonished ourselves at how many we sold but knowing the rivalry between the two cities, we think our Manchester staff will want to beat the Liverpool record! They’re talking about 2, 500 as a target.” Barburrito anticipates opening seven new outlets by 2011 and is hoping for another award after the giveaway, this time in the Guiness Book of Records to sit alongside others that to date have included its place in The Guardian’s Top 50 healthy fast food places to eat in the UK and Best Quick Bite at The Metro Food & Drink Awards. Derek the Donkey was on hand as Barburrito’s new brand icon with co-founder Morgan Davies maintaining that customers will really take to him because “whilst he’s not the best-looking chap, he is very family-friendly…a key target market for us as a business.” Derek appears on signage, menus and loyalty cards and Davies believes he will help communicate more about the food, “prove our brand personality and add a dash of humour.” Vibrant new photography adourn big impactful walls with stencilled messages about the freshness and origins of Barburrito’s ingredients.
