Lunya wins Good Food Guide North West Restaurant of the Year for the second year running

First time crown has been retained

Lunya, the UK’s leading Catalan and Spanish deli and restaurant, has been crowned the Waitrose Good Food Guide’s North West Restaurant of the Year for the second time in as many years. The accolade further cements Lunya’s leading position in the North West and UK foodie scene with their multi-award winning deli and restaurant. Started 5 years ago by husband and wife team, Peter & Elaine Kinsella, Lunya is also expanding and opening its second branch in Manchester later this year. The couple gave up lucrative careers in the health service and child psychology respectively to pursue their dream of bringing the very best of Catalan and Spanish food and drink to Liverpool and have seen their business flourish since opening in 2010.

Elaine Kinsella said: “This award is particularly special as it is the well informed foodie public who vote and it has such historic prestige. For us, it is the ultimate accolade for a restaurant. We win this award at a very exciting time too as we open our second site in Manchester city centre in the Autumn bringing our Catalan deli and restaurant to many more thousands of people.”

Lunya was started in 2010 by husband and wife team, Peter and Elaine Kinsella who sold everything they had and borrowed to the hilt in the middle of the worst recession ever to take a punt on creating what is now the hugely successful Lunya.  The love affair with Catalunya started with a business trip in 1998 when Peter went to Barcelona to do some work to create community services for disabled people over there.  It all started with a fabulous lunch…

Peter is the Executive Chef and joint proprietor of Lunya.  Having spent over 20 years working across the UK and the world developing community services for disabled people, he gave it up all up to pursue his passion for food and all things Spanish.

 

About Elaine Kinsella

Elaine is the Operations Director and joint proprietor of Lunya.  A child psychologist and qualified teacher, Elaine leads Lunya’s front of house and is the driving force behind their informal, relaxed but elegant style of service.
